Citymade's 365th post–one year finished

where to buy clomid in lagos For the sake of the day, Citymade commissioned a video project (from the husbands) to show a few of the less glamorous repurposed outcomes. While this post is the culmination of the once-a-day repurposing challenge, it is only the beginning for Citymade.

owlishly Next year, posts will be more weekly than daily while we start to produce in larger quantities those pieces that people really enjoy and found useful. Of course, we’ll still be experimenting with new ideas, too.

Here’s our remembrance of 2010’s little mistakes with a look to the future:

Tin Votive Holders

We thought it would be nice to add a little soft candle light to our New Year celebration. We had these tin candy molds (think Valentine’s crayons).

They are just the right size for votive candles.

Now our table looks a bit more festive.

3-2-1 Were are almost there!

That’s right! We are almost there! 365 days of re-purposing! You may ask yourself, “Self, how did these busy ladies acheive this?”

Well, truthfully, we were organized. Not “Power to the People” organized, but nitty gritty, plan, plot organized. So, one of our last posts is something to help you get organized.

We had an old, yucky (a scientific term) jelly roll pan.

We painted the edge, then decoupaged some butterfly fabric on to it.

Now it is a fancy magnet board to help us keep organized for the next 365 days.

And-no-we will not be re-purposing once a day. BUT- we will still be posting once a week. So STAY TUNED!

From old year to new use

Do you have a tear-off calendar? We have an idea to re-use it.

Just save the old pages (if you can keep them attached, even better) and turn it over to use as a note pad or stationary.

Home Studio Pendants

Today’s repurposing post is a great gift idea that we found on Etsy.  These necklaces are made from scrabble tiles by California couple Stef and Mark.

These necklaces are done so beautifully and were loved by the recipients this Christmas.

Here is a little more info about the couple:

Stef + Mark began their joint effort as jewelry artists in 2008. This mom-preneur had a goal to raise a family and a business together using some of the best energy saving tips. She reined in the creative talents of artist husband, Mark dedicating their whole home into an art studio. Together they juggle raising a young family with making necklaces full-time in sunny California. Forever blessed for both!

Visit their etsy shop here to check out these awesome necklaces.  There are pages and pages of different designs to choose from.  Choosing was definitely the hardest part!

A Pouch with a Secret

We have been busy making gifts for the various teachers in our children’s lives.  It is fun to come up with something that is not apple-focused or soap, (not that there is anything wrong with those gifts, we were just looking for something different).

We used an old men’s shirt (from linen bookmarks) to make the pouch part of this bag (and the bag is from the Ikea linen find).

We also made a few more in some bought fabric, but they were too cute not to include.

Found Fabric bookmarks

Merry Christmas from citymade!

For the next few posts we are going to feature some of the gifts we have made (or found). Our first gift, Linen Bookmarks.

We had linen pants, old shirts and pillow cases. Our girlies drew some holiday pictures (in sharpie) on the linen. Melany and I embroidered around their drawings, sewed a back and a ribbon on.

Now we have super cute bookmarks to give Grandparents (or anyone else lucky enough to receive one)

By the way- we saw this idea on one of our favorite sites .

Tissue Box Nativity

Here is a cute way to get the kids involved with the story of Christmas.

We took a tissue box (bonus that it had a bamboo background). Cut off the bottom. Then took cork, and some other odds and ends and made a Joseph and Mary.

With an old bead form a necklace we made a baby Jesus, wrapped in swaddling.

Some raffia for hay, and you have a homemade Nativity scene. And the kids can totally touch it, because it isn’t fancy adn made of glass.

(Obviously we celebrate the Christian idea of Christmas. If that is not your belief, you can always make you diorama something else: Kwanza fesival scene, Hannukah scene, crazy shopping scene. Be creative.)

Newspaper bag

A quickie, but a goodie!

Grab some newspaper, fold it on one side like you would fold a gift box. Punch holes n the top for handles, and you have a eco-gift bag. Totally recyclable!

Gift Wrap do-it-yourself

If you keep old magazines around “just in case”, well, today is your lucky day! We have a post that will help you wrap gifts and use your magazines (you can also use newspapers) and it is a great project for the kids!

Colin cut out shapes and letters, glued them onto plain paper and decoupaged over them.

The result is a unique wrapping paper that he made himself. (Because it is paper, it can go in the recycling after Christmas.)
