Today’s re-purposing idea comes from 8-year-old Colin. He and big brother James attended a piano event last Saturday in which they both came home with quite a few ribbons. What to do with them?

Colin came up with the idea of using them as bookmarks. Very clever. And they really are the perfect size for a bookmark, plus they have the little string to dangle from the book.

Re-purposed Felted Wool: The final Chapter

With the last of the wool sweaters we created some much loved clips. The girls love to wear “fancy” clips in their hair. Felted wool is easy to shape into flowers, hearts or bows.

That’s it. The end of our felted wool series. Tell us if you have been inspired to rethink that moth eaten sweater in the bottom of your closet. For more than moth food that is.

Re-purposed Felted Wool: The Ball and Puppy

Are you beginning to recognize the sweaters yet? That’s right, the tan sweater is now a puppy, complete with a striped sweater dot. With the rest of the striped sweater, we fashioned a ball for the puppy to fetch. Go get it boy!

Re-purposed Felted Wool Continued…

Here is the adorable Jace sporting a pair of wool leg warmers and a hat.  By cutting the sleeves off of a felted sweater we had instant leg warmers (no sewing needed!).  Carol took the shoulders of the sweater and sewed them into an adorable hat with fringes.

Thanks to Amber for giving us the cutest little model ever!

Felted wool, part IV: A Wool Basket

We saw this project in an old Martha Stewart magazine and as with most MS projects, thought it was too complicated. However, once we got going, we realized that it was simple. (Take that Martha!)

This is the front of a gray sweater (remember the baby hat from felted wool post #1?). We used the stripe as decoration. You could make this basket in a variety of sizes and because of its unique shape it provides a different storage option.

Re-purposed felted wool, part III: The Wool Clutch.

We are back with another felted wool project. By now the wool is probably starting to look a bit familiar (think brown iPod case).

We took the part of the sweater with a pattern (in this case it was the front of the sweater) and cut it to about the size of a small clutch. Then added a lining and a button. A nice warm look for a cold day.

Our kids had a couple of birthday parties last weekend, so Melany and I used it as an excuse to create!

We had been wanting to try this cloth house for a while. Now I need to figure out how to make really small dolls. Anyone?

There is also another version of a handmade book with a pocket on the outside. It is a photo/memory book with a coordinated pencil wrap.

As promised, we have more felted wool made from old sweaters.

Featured today: iPhone/iPod touch cases. Super easy, handy little case for your favorite technology.

Just measure your phone or mp3 player. Try and use the bottom of a sweater or the sweater sleeve. Cut, sew, and add a button.

Today’s Re-purposing project: felted wool

So this week we have decided to try and felt some wool. We had some old sweaters that had holes or were a bit out-dated. In order to felt a sweater, you wash it in hot water and dry it on hot. It shrinks the wool.

Our first project is a cute and warm baby hat with some baby mittens to match. Tomorrow more felted wool projects.

Pink Dress Series #5

After exhausting almost every ounce of the famous pink dress we were only left with several scraps.  There is only one thing to do with pink scraps…barbie clothes!  With a little velcro and some patience we fashioned a pink barbie skirt and dress.

Melany also discovered that her calling in life is to photograph barbies who always sit still, always smile and don’t need candy bribes.

Thank you for following our Pink Dress Series.
