Tights to Bows

Our re-purposing project for today begins with a pair of worn out tights.  We have to admit that this idea is borrowed from another talented seamstress.  We fired up the new serger, or as we have learned to call an “overlocking sewing machine” and transformed the tights into hair barrettes for our daughters.  We love having three gorgeous models to show off our projects!

Just as we are inspired by other creative people we hope that others will be inspired by our creations.  If we have lit a creative spark in someone, we have done our job.

Felt Refridgerator magnets

Our re-purpose challenge for the day…

Yesterday, I (Melany) received a letter from the Douglas County Health Department about preventing lead poisoning.  The letter included a large magnet with safety instructions such as washing hands before eating and removing shoes when coming inside.  As helpful as that seemed I envisioned something prettier on my refrigerator.

I cut up the large magnet into smaller pieces, added some felt and…voila!

Corduroy Messenger Bag

It is Tuesday, the one day that, so far, Melany and I don’t have to teach,  therefore it has been designated as a project day. I should also say that our re-purposing challenge will not always be this elaborate. We just happened to have some time today. So here it is, today’s re-purposing project. A tote using fabric from Jordan’s messenger bag and a pair of corduroy pants that my hubby (Christian) wore (and tore) on Sunday.

I also included a photo of what our operation looks like now. Usually my dining room transformed into citymade. We are hoping it is not always in the dining room (think Hotshops… .). Anyway, enjoy.

Introducing the Repurposing Challenge

Here is an introduction of some of our re-purposed creations.

The pencil bags were made out of used plastic bags that we fused (NOT as easy as it sounds) and the other was made of juice bags that came home in the kids lunches.

The blocks were made for a cousin’s baby. They were made of old fleece, blue jeans and a pair of old cords.

The wall organizer was made from an old pillow case (the patterned pieces).

We like to call the messenger bag “the Jordan” after little bro. It is canvas and fused Target and garbage bags (nice work Melany).

So these photos really serve two purposes. It gives us a chance to show some of the products we make and meets our re-purposing challenge for the day.
